Central Appalachian Basic Ash - Hickory Woodland – CEGL003683
This Central Appalachian Basic Ash-Hickory Woodland occurs in an unusual geological setting: on thin soil over highly calcareous Ridgely sandstone outcrops of the Ridge and Valley province.  The dominant herbs in the foreground are rock muhly (Muhlenbergia sobolifera) and white snakeroot (Ageratina altissima var. altissima).  Southwest slope of Bullpasture River Gorge, Highland State Wildlife Management Area, Highland County.
