Shrubs of fringetree (Chionanthus virginicus) in a woodland opening on exfoliating granitic gneiss outcrops, Woods Mountain, Nelson County.  Low herbaceous plants rooted in the extensive moss and lichen mats include pineweed (Hypericum gentianoides) and roundleaf fameflower (Phemeranthus teretifolius).  The Nature Conservancy Fortunes Cove Preserve.
