Virginia pine (Pinus virginiana) and little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium) growing on an exfoliating granitic gneiss outcrop on the west slope of Woods Mountain, northwest of Lovingston in Nelson County.  Herb patches are rooted in extensive mats of juniper haircap moss (Polytrichum juniperinum) and reindeer lichens (Cladonia spp.).  The Nature Conservancy Fortunes Cove Preserve.
