Central Appalachian Xeric Chestnut Oak - Virginia Pine Woodland – CEGL008540
Table-mountain pine (Pinus pungens), chestnut oak (Quercus montana), and patches of Pennsylvania sedge (Carex pensylvanica) on charnockite outcrops at Miller Head in Shenandoah National Park (Page County).  This community type primarily occurs on acidic sedimentary and metasedimentary rocks (except shale), but is also found on certain igneous and metamorphic outcrops of the Blue Ridge.
