Mature white oak (Quercus alba) in a ravine at Westmoreland State Park, Westmoreland County.  The evergreen American holly (Ilex opaca), dominant in the understory, is one of the most characteristic small trees of mesic mixed hardwood forest, especially in the Coastal Plain.
