Maritime Loblolly Pine - Hardwood Forest – CEGL006040

Maritime hammock forest on Marks Island, a small upland remnant in an extensive marsh complex on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Accomack County.  The hammock is overwashed frequently by storm surges, and thatch from both dune and marsh grasses have accumulated, forming an exceptionally deep cover on the forest floor.
