Loblolly Pine / Sand Heather Dune Woodland – CEGL006052
The loblolly pine/sand heather dune woodland community type occurs only on the highest, most xeric back dunes that are well protected from salt spray and storm surges.  Here, stunted loblolly pines (Pinus taeda) are interspersed with open sand supporting scattered sand heather (Hudsonia tomentosa) and beach panic grass (Panicum amarum var. amarulum).  False Cape State Park and Natural Area Preserve, City of Virginia Beach.
