Limestone Annual Flatrock Barren – CEGL007073

Despite appearances, few to no warm-season perennial grasses occur on the limestone flatrock barrens near Lexington in Rockbridge County.  Much of the vegetation is composed of annuals such as wiry panic grass (Panicum flexile) and short perennials such as nodding onion (Allium cernuum).
