High-Elevation Outcrop Barren (Greenland Sandwort Igneous / Metamorphic Type) – CEGL008509

Michaux's saxifrage (Hydatica petiolaris) and Greenland sandwort (Minuartia groenlandica) cling to fragile mats of organic matter and bryophytes below the summit of Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County.  This community type is highly vulnerable to foot traffic and trampling.  Buffalo Mountain State Natural Area Preserve.
