High-elevation mafic barren on amphibolite, upper south slope of Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County.  Dwarf upland willow (Salix occidentalis) is in the foreground; little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium) is the dominant graminoid.  Buffalo Mountain State Natural Area Preserve.
