High-elevation heath barren with mountain-laurel (Kalmia latifolia) and American mountain-ash (Sorbus americana) flowering, on charnockite (a granitic gneiss) at Marys Rock, summit of the Northern Blue Ridge in Rappahannock and Page counties.  Shenandoah National Park.
