Southern Appalachian High-Elevation Boulderfield Forest / Woodland - CEGL006124
A young boulderfield forest of yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis), with some red spruce (Picea rubens), at about 5200 ft elevation on the southwest slope of Mount Rogers in Grayson County.  Mountain wood fern (Dryopteris campyloptera) and skunk currant (Ribes glandulosum) contribute most of the ground cover. Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
