Water-Lily Floodplain Pool / Pond – CEGL002386
Black Pond at Madeira School in Fairfax County is an unusual and entirely natural water body that occurs on a bedrock strath terrace of the Potomac Gorge. It likely represents a remnant of an old, Pleistocene-aged channel of the Potomac River, and is currently overflowed only in catastrophic floods. © DCR-DNH, Gary P. Fleming
