Piedmont / Coastal Plain Hemlock - Hardwood Forest – CEGL006474
An eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) - dominated forest covers close to 20 acres on a very steep, NW-facing bluff subtending the James River in Buckingham County.  The stand has suffered various degrees of damage from hemlock woolly adelgid outbreaks but overall, is one of the healthiest Piedmont stands in Virginia because of the release of adelgid-predator wasps by Virginia Tech about ten years ago.  James River State Park.
