Appalachian Hemlock - Northern Hardwood Forest – CEGL006639
Old-growth eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) in the Limberlost area of Shenandoah National Park (Madison County), in 1980.  All the large hemlocks in this ~500 year-old stand are now dead following years of infestation by the introduced insect pathogen hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae).
