Coastal Plain / Outer Piedmont Seepage Bog – CEGL006499

A "savanna" of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) over sweetbay (Magnolia virginiana), Virginia chain fern (Woodwardia virginica), and bushy bluestem (Andropogon glomeratus) at the Cherry Orchard Bog State Natural Area Preserve in Sussex County.  Formerly overgrown and its vegetation restricted to a powerline, the bog is being restored and kept open by prescribed burning.
