Northern Coastal Plain / Piedmont Oak - Beech / Heath Forest – CEGL006919
Old-age chestnut oak (Quercus montana) and American beeches (Fagus grandifolia), and dense mountain-laurel (Kalmia latifolia) characterize a north-facing ravine slope in the southeastern part of York River State Park, James City County.  At more than 1000 acres, the occurrence of oak-beech/heath forest in this highly dissected part of the Coastal Plain is one of the largest in Virginia.
