Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica) dominates the spring aspect of a Northern Coastal Plain Beech - Mixed Hardwood Floodplain Forest along the Pamunkey River in New Kent County.  Spring ephemerals are generally abundant in this unusually rich, Coastal Plain community type.
