Southern  Piedmont / Inner Coastal Plain Mixed Oak Floodplain Swamp – CEGL006498

Floodplain swamp in slough at back edge of the Roanoke (Staunton) River floodplain south of Harrisburg in Halifax County.  Parts of the forest here are being opened up by green ash mortality from Emerald Ash Borer infestations. This introduced insect is a serious threat to most swamp forests in Virginia.
