Central Appalachian Shale Barren (Northern Type) – CEGL006288

Shale barren wild buckwheat (Eriogonum allenii) on a barren near the west foot of the Massanutten Mountains below Woodstock Gap, Shenandoah County.  This species is a strict shale-barren endemic, and also endemic to western Virginia and eastern West Virginia.  Lee Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
