Central Appalachian Shale Barren (Northern Type) – CEGL006288

A rather barren and unstable shale barren on a ridge subtending the South Fork Shenandoah River northwest of Bentonville, Warren County.  Many of the larger Virginia pines (Pinus virginiana) were killed by drought.  Shenandoah River State Park.
