Central Appalachian Calcareous Shale Barren - CEGL006037 (in part)

Shale barren goldenrod (Solidago harrisii) in a rocky, calcareous shale barren along the Shenandoah River North Fork near Woodstock in Shenandoah County.  Ironically, despite its common name, this species has proven far more common on limestone and dolostone habitats than on shale.  Seven Bends State Park.
