Central Appalachian Shale Barren (Southern Type) – CEGL006562

Spring aspect of a very steep shale barren with Virginia pine (Pinus virginiana), scrubby oaks and hickories, and a very diverse herb flora.  On slope subtending Shaws Fork at east foot of Shaws Ridge, near Headwaters, Highland County.  North River Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
