Shenandoah Valley Prairie Fen - CEGL006170

The calcareous fen at The Nature Conservancy's South River Preserve near Stuarts Draft in Augusta County has been managed with prescribed burning for many years, to the benefit of numerous rare species.  Twig-rush (Cladium mariscoides), baltic rush (Juncus balticus var. littoralis), and common cattail (Typha latifolia) co-dominate the stand shown here.
