Northern Hardpan Basic Oak - Hickory Forest – CEGL006216
Massive diabase boulders cover the floor of a Northern Hardpan Basic Oak - Hickory Forest on slopes along Cub Run west of Centerville, Fairfax County.  Bearded shorthusk (Brachyelytrum erectum) is the dominant graminoid.  A plot sampled at this site has one of the highest species richness values (125 species) recorded among 4700+ Virginia vegetation plots.
