Northern Hardpan Basic Oak - Hickory Forest – CEGL006216

White oak (Quercus alba) and white ash (Fraxinus americana) in a mature Northern Hardpan Basic Oak-Hickory Forest on diabase ridge southeast of Brawner Farm at Manassas National Battlefield Park, Prince William County.  The trees in this community typically do not attain great size due to shallow rooting and frequent drought conditions.
