Southern Piedmont Basic Oak - Hickory Forest – CEGL007232

Early spring view of a basic oak-hickory forest, with shagbark hickories (Carya ovata) and emerging herbaceous growth prominent.  This stand is at the more mesic end of the moisture gradient for the type, and has some beech (Fagus grandifolia), as well as many spring ephemerals. Along the Willis River in Cumberland State Forest, Cumberland County.
