Inner Piedmont / Lower Blue Ridge Basic Oak - Hickory Forest – CEGL008514

Basic oak-hickory forest on Stuart's Knob, an amphibolite hill in Fairy Stone State Park, Patrick County (see also the previous photo).  This part of the stand is drier, has soil with lower base status, and has significant cover by the ericaceous shrub deerberry (Vaccinium stamineum) - all of which make it somewhat transitional to acidic oak-hickory forest.
