Inner Piedmont / Lower Blue Ridge Basic Oak - Hickory Forest – CEGL008514

Dense herb layer of wild sarsaparilla (Aralia nudicaulis) and other forbs in a mature, basic oak-hickory forest at north end of High Point Mountain in the Bull Run Mountains, Fauquier County.  These forests are so-named because they are associated with fertile soils weathered from basic rocks.
