Coastal Plain Swamp Tupelo Blackwater Swamp – CEGL007054

Mature stand of swamp tupelo (Nyssa biflora) in a blackwater swamp along a tributary of Coppahaunk Swamp west of Wakefield in Sussex County.  The dense shrub layer is composed of sweet pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia), highbush blueberries (Vaccinium formosum and V. fuscatum), possum-haw (Viburnum nudum), and several other species.  The Nature Conservancy's Piney Grove Preserve.
