Coastal Plain Swamp Tupelo Blackwater Swamp – CEGL007054

A very dense, peaty, blackwater swamp dominated by swamp tupelo (Nyssa biflora). Along Dragon Swamp near Center Cross, Essex County.  The shrub flora is diverse and several ferns dominate the herb layer. This community type typically occurs in the most acidic, organic swamp soils in the smaller "blackwater" swamps along headwater streams. Middle Peninsula Chesapeake Bay Public Access Authority land.
