Bald Cypress - Mixed Tupelo Intermediate Swamp – CEGL007432

A very dense, seasonally flooded swamp dominated by bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) and swamp tupelo (Nyssa biflora) along the Blackwater River north of Cherry Grove, Southampton County.  Lizard's-tail (Saururus cernuus) and greater marsh St. John's-wort (Hypericum walteri) are prominent herbs in the foreground.  South Quay Sandhills State Natural Area Preserve.
