To celebrate DCR Deputy Agency Director Darryl Glover’s 40 years of state service, we are highlighting his impactful career in conservation.
Glover is a renowned conservation leader whose vision, expertise and commitment have advanced the health of Virginia's soil and water resources.
After earning his degree in geological sciences from Cornell University, he began what is now a 40-year career in conservation.

Glover has served multiple Virginia agencies, assuming positions of greater and greater responsibility, thanks to his conservation acumen and exceptional leadership skills, including:
A tireless advocate for water quality, at DEQ, Glover directed Virginia's water monitoring program and the federally required water quality monitoring and assessment report, providing program oversight and guidance.
He also led development of the agricultural section of the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load Phase III Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) and its initial biannual milestones, engaging stakeholders from 31 local SWCDs, farmers and agriculture representatives and conservationists in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
To further safeguard the state’s natural resources, Glover undertook a comprehensive multiyear effort with the Agricultural BMP Technical Advisory Committee to make DCR's agriculture incentives more flexible and innovative for agricultural producers.
Throughout his years of service, Glover has always used opportunities to share knowledge and help others become the next generation of conservation leaders.

The University of Virginia’s Gerald P. McCarthy Award for Leadership in Environmental Conflict Resolution honors an individual who fosters collaboration and has taken a leadership role in preserving and protecting Virginia's environment.
In a career marked by many honors, Glover’s deep commitment to Virginia’s 47 Soil and Water Conservation Districts made his induction to the Southeast Region Conservation Hall of Fame in 2023 particularly meaningful.
