The environmental health of our waterways is threatened by nonpoint source pollution because of the way we use the land. The good news is that we can do something about it. We can reduce the threat to our waterways and improve the quality of our water supplies by restoring riparian buffers, building fences to keep livestock out of streams, improving tillage practices, managing livestock waste and implementing best management practices in forestry, and land development activities.
Proven methods exist to conserve and stabilize the land. DCR provides the technical assistance that farmers and other landowners need to reduce NPS pollution on their land. Sound land-use practices improve the efficiency of farming, the quality of our landscape, and improve our waterways.
