Learn from others – community solutions

In watersheds throughout the state, communities are working together to make a difference in the health of their waterways. Eight of the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s watershed offices provide the technical resources, support and financial assistance needed to guide community efforts aimed at reducing nonpoint source pollution in Virginia’s 13 main watersheds. In addition, DCR provides support to organized local watershed conservation roundtables. These roundtables (some referred to as forums or councils) provide communities with a citizen forum to define critical watershed needs, target problems and solutions, provide input into management solutions, and develop strategic action plans to serve as road maps for cooperative and voluntary efforts to improve the health of their waterways.

Click on the watersheds below to find out what communities are doing to make a difference in their waterways. Becoming involved in your community’s watershed activities will make a difference in your backyard and in others.
