Ice Cream Sundae - Reporting the Retreat
Date: 08/17/2014
Time: 2:00 p.m.   To  3:00 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center at Sailor's Creek Battlefield
Description: During the American Civil War, hundreds of newspaper reporters, sketch artists and photographers brought the news of the war to the populace at home, both in the North and South. Join us for a bowl of ice cream while you learn more about two of these individuals. Alfred Waud and Timothy O'Sullivan were instrumental in visually documenting the retreat from Richmond and Petersburg to Appomattox Court House. Their images are iconic in the visual record of the War.

Join us as we discuss the careers of these two men and take a detailed look at their work.
