Marketing Internships

Virginia State Parks are committed to providing interns with a robust educational experience. Marketing interns will work with influential marketers who have expertise in media and public relations, social media, blogging, event marketing, tradeshow and event management, research, volunteerism and grant-writing. Interns will work in, or closely with, Virginia State Parks and gain excellent exposure and skills to enhance their professional and personal development. Eligibility: Prospective interns should be enrolled in a two to four-year program at a university or state, community or private college, and be able to receive credit for participating in the program. They also must be authorized to work in the United States.

Summer Internships: Summer internships begin in early June and run for eight weeks. Summer interns receive media and job interview skills training and are required to complete a final research project to be presented to the agency's senior level management. Resumés for summer internships are being accepted.

Academic-year Internships: Academic-year internships are offered on an as-needed basis and run from August to May. Resumés for academic-year internships are being accepted.

General qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
  • Strong knowledge of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, etc.) and how they work.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation and willingness and ability to travel within Virginia.
  • A personal cell phone and laptop to use during internship.
  • A smart phone and/or video camera and familiarity with videography and video editing is a plus.
