Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Don't miss the biggest event this year at James River State Park, the Annual Fall Festival and Finale to the Adventures on the James Games on October 17, 2015.

Bring the whole family out to enjoy the Fall Festival at James River State Park
The fun begins at on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
The entire family will enjoy pumpkin carving and painting (pumpkins will be for sale), candle dipping, apple pressing, face painting, 19th century children's games, Civil War re-enactors, an apple slingshot, a candy maze and more.
Wagon rides for $3/person or $8/family run every half hour from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Enjoy the sunset while you sip hot cider by the bonfire at 6:30 p.m.
Hot diggity dog
Food vendors will be onsite for the festival such as the Park's Friends Group selling homemade Brunswick Stew and Barbeque, and also Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department with hamburgers and hotdogs.
Devils Backbone Brewing Company will be on hand with some of their craft beer for sale around 4:00 p.m. and at 5:00 p.m. the classic rock cover band Gypsy Road will perform.
When darkness falls
Take a spooky trail to the amphitheater and enjoy a family friendly movie there at 7:30 p.m. Goblins will hand out candy.
Dress for the weather and bring a blanket, chairs and a flashlight. Food, popcorn and drinks will also be for sale. Proceeds benefit the Friends of James River State Park.
Nighttime 5K Trail Run starts at 7:30 p.m.
This is the third event in our series “Adventures on the James Games.” Registration will be open all day for the race. We plan to have the awards for the race at approximately 8:45pm. More information about the race, and online registration, can be found here.
