Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Top Five Places to See the Leaves Change at Virginia State Parks
You won't need to head out of state to see the beauty of the leaves changing color this fall, as we have some of the most scenic locations to leaf peep right here at your favorite Virginia State Parks.
1. From inside a cozy cabin at Staunton River State Park where the fireplace is crackling and the hot cocoa is topped with marshmallows.
2. From an overlook or hike to Twin Pinnacles at Grayson Highlands State Park, each step bringing you closer to knocking your socks off.
3. From casting a line from the shoreline of Swift Creek where a fall mural envelopes you at Pocahontas State Park.
4. From a romantic canoe made for two as you glide past the Monet of color using wide brush strokes, paddling the lake at Douthat State Park.
5. From your bike as you pedal like the wind and the colors pop around you like a fall fireworks display at High Bridge Trail State Park.
Every Virginia State Park comes alive as the leaves die in the fall, and each one is a leaf peeping destination in its' own right, to see a map of all 36 Virginia State Parks click here.
If you wish to stay overnight in a campground or a cabin this fall, which I highly recommend to extend your stay for more than a few hours, you can click here to learn more about rates and availability. Not all parks listed above have overnight lodging in cabins; see the list of parks who do offer them here. I would make your reservation ASAP before they are all filled. Call 800-933-PARK if you want to speak to a customer service agent to help pick the cabin for your leaf peeping getaway.
Fall is calling. Will you answer from a Virginia State Park?
