Just Breathe...

Lovely Sunset from Potomac Trail at Leesylvania State Park, VirginiaRelish this lovely sunset from Potomac Trail

While I know all Virginia State Parks offer a haven where one can “breathe”, I think the state parks in Northern Virginia are especially needed for us to be able to escape the bumper to bumper traffic and the constant noise of the city.

Every time I drive to Leesylvania or Mason Neck state parks I feel like I am holding my breath until I get to the park. When I enter the park and see the trees, wildlife and the beautiful water I feel that I can relax and breathe again. Even when Leesylvania State Park is busy on the weekends, solace can be found hiking along a meandering trail or a paddling a canoe in a quiet cove.

Sunrise and sunsets make our park of the month extra special, we think there is something here everyone will enjoy.

Now with the new primitive "paddle-in" campground that will be opening soon, there will be an entire new resource for getting out of the madness and into a stress free experience.

And, although Leesylvania State Park is one of the most popular places in Northern Virginia to launch a boat, the park is not just for water related recreation. History abounds and can be experienced throughout the park. Make sure you plan a trip to the Visitor Center to check out the displays and information on the local Native Americans, the Lee’s and Fairfax families, and the Civil War.
