Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Oftentimes we need to "live like a tourist" to see what is right in front of us. The natural beauty, culture and adventure available in Virginia are bar none, but wait there's more...

I have been privileged to experience some incredible things since moving to Virginia, and can say without a doubt that Virginia State Parks has truly enhanced my life. But there are other things not to be missed in Virginia and that is what this article is about.

The sky is the limit when it comes to exploring all that our state have to offer from a Virginia State Park. I would like to put my favorites on a bucket list of not to miss things for you, but they may not be what you are expecting.

EXPERIENCES ARE MUCH MORE

So you see my list is more personal and more about the connectedness in the experiences found at Virginia State Parks. Many of us take things for granted as we go about our daily lives, and really have to slow down and take an assessment of ourselves to realize their importance.

A bucket list of top things to do at a Virginia State Park or anywhere else would be easy, it would read like a travel brochure, and you can surely go and do those things. But I encourage you to go a step further and look at who you do them with, as that is where the memories are made. My bucket list is all about memories, and I draw from that bucket like a thirsty soul drawing cold refreshing water from a deep well, whenever I am parched.

Remember, that as some of these photos may look like solo activities, there is always someone there holding the camera.
