There is no denying that Hungry Mother State Park has one of the most unusual names in all Virginia's 36 State Parks and that it is also one of the most unique parks in Southwest Virginia and it is our Park of the Month for August.

As soon as you drive into the park the resounding giggles are heard echoing across the lake from the children splashing and playing in the water and on the beach. You are quickly reminded that this is a very special place where memories are made.

Jerry Ballengee (July 30, 2015 10:49:43 PM): We have been coming to HMP for many years. All that remember camp area D. We used to camp there. But now for a number of years we stay in the cabins. Our favorites are 11,12 or 13. The park and surrounding area has everything we need. The cabins are clean and it is really peaceful there. I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

Carly (July 30, 2015 03:25:57 PM): Last year our family spent Labor Day weekend at hungry mother state park. We stayed in the two bedroom cabin and had a wonderful time swimming, biking, and attending educational events. We are at the restaurant for lunch one day. The soup and salad bar was delicious and it was nice to have a break from cooking. The cabin was very clean and stocked with everything. The high five at the beach was a big hit with my 10 and 8 year old. All around a terrific time.
