We couldn't ask for a more beautiful day to visit Fairy Stone State Park with the birds chirping and water shimmering in the spring midday sun. As we cruised over to the campground we were surprised to find just one RV set up to enjoy this fabulous Virginia State Park.

Spring had only just sprung on Sunday, and this was only Tuesday but these campers had been enjoying every bit of relaxation and solitude that a mid-week non-peak campground experience had to offer. They had a bird feeder set up, reclining chaise-like lounge chairs and like most of our Virginia State Park campers they welcomed us right in to their campsite.

This is the story of Suzie and Bill Kay

Bill captured a photo of the big fish he had caught and released in Fairy Stone Lake, and I have to admit it was a whopper!

And Suzie had the campsite looking sweet with a lovely tablecloth on the picnic table, and neat camping bric-a-brac (if that is the right word to use) to decorate the site and make it feel like home.

They had enjoyed the campground here for 1 week and were heading home tomorrow. They told us they retired to Williamsburg Virginia after 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, were originally from Southern California and had lived all over, but chose Virginia as the ideal location to retire.

Bill and Suzie told us that they are intent on visiting every single one of the 36 Virginia State Parks with their trailer. To date they had camped at 16 of these parks and were eager to get to them all.
