Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Meet me on Molly's Knob!
Molly’s Knob Trail is my favorite hike at Hungry Mother State Park with spectacular views, and one of the best scenic hikes in all of Virginia.
On a clear day views of Mount Rogers in the Highlands can be seen from the summit, but getting to the summit is not so easy for us novice hikers, but is very rewarding.
Molly's Knob Trail is classified as difficult on the trail guide. It is 1.9 miles (and longer if you include the .2 mile of Ridge Trail which is really where the incredible view comes in and also the most difficult trek to get to the top). Then you get to come all the way back down again, so double what I just said, and that is your roundtrip hiking distance.
Hungry Mother State Park is located in Marion Virginia and easily accessible using Exit 47 from I-81. The park is just two hours south of Roanoke and 45 minutes north of Bristol Virginia.
