Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Each year we gather at Mason Neck State Park to not only celebrate the eagle but all wildlife that can be found in Virginia. State, federal, county and private entities located on Mason Neck have been coming together for 19 years to bring to the community this special event that is like no other:

Join us for the Mason Neck State Park Eagle Festival
The fun begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.:
- Pony rides
- Guides hikes
- TWO ways to view an active Bald Eagle’s nest:
- Hay rides every hour to go to the nest at the James House
- Guided hike to nest on Wilson Spring Trail
- Live animal shows from Reptiles Alive and The Raptor Conservancy
- Programs under the big tent by each of the 5 agencies on the Neck:
- Mason Neck State Park “Overlooked Wildlife” featuring live insects and other organisms like reptiles and salamanders.
- Gunston Hall: Interactive story telling about George Mason, animals from the 1700's
- Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge (USF&W): An officer will present on illegal animal trades and endangered animals, etc.
- Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area (US Bureau of Land Management): Animal Olympics
- Pohick Bay Regional Park: Special Program
