Going to the Birds

By Jennifer SaikPosted November 01, 2015

Shenandoah River State Park is going to the birds, or for those who are looking for them anyway.

Where would we be without our volunteers? Shenandoah River State Park would be less one new program. Our newest program “Introduction to Birding” was created by park volunteer Charles Price. Price is currently completing his certification as a Shenandoah Master Naturalist

"Introduction of Birding" is a new program at Shenandoah River State Park, Virginia

This fantastic interpretive program begins with a presentation at the park visitor center. Mr. Price uses the numerous taxidermy birds in the exhibit area to teach participants how to identify local birds and determine where particular species are likely to be observed. The lecture is followed by a wagon ride to the River Trail, where Mr. Price leads an observation hike.

So far, the turnout for this program has been great and we have received positive feedback about it. It is a great program for everyone and there is still an opportunity to join the fun.

The next program will be held on Saturday, November 14th, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  For more information about this free program, please visit our events page .

Fall is a great time of year to get out and enjoy the outdoors. This program is just one way that is possible. We hope you won't miss out on this opportunity, register soon and we'll see you there.

Virginia State Parks (December 09, 2015 04:26:50 PM): Thanks Nia. We love helping kids of all ages learn more about nature and become lifelong lovers of the natural world.

Nia (December 09, 2015 12:11:34 PM): It’s really good to see the different ages of the participants in this program - it is great when kids get the chance to develop their passions and learn to love the great outdoors. And for adults too, it is never too late to learn something new and this can make a real difference to your quality of live and your happiness.
