Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

When you visit the Festival of Trees at the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park in Big Stone Gap, VA, you realize the importance of community participation.  Over 80 trees, mantels, and doorways throughout the mansion are decorated by community organizations.  Each visitor who tours the festival gets a chance to vote for their favorite tree.  The following groups were the top three.

1st place - "Mary did you know?"“Mary, Did You Know?” – East Park Avenue Baptist Church of Norton, VA

 

2nd place The Joy of Pepsi” - Pepsi Bottling Company of Norton, VA

 

3rd place“Whimsical Colors” – L.J. Horton Florist of Big Stone Gap, VA
