Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Virginia Departments of Forestry and Game & Inland Fisheries will be among the organizations that will have interactive and informative displays about life in the estuary. Williamsburg Families will be on hand to give kids of all ages fun tattoos. Area parks & recreation organizations will also join us to promote nearby outdoor activities and experiences. The Friends of York River State Park will be providing food for a donation.

Go with a ranger

Our staff and volunteers will lead guest on a variety of adventures. Our popular Fossil Frenzy Hikes and River Seining programs will be offered as well as both canoe trips on Taskinas Creek and kayaking on the York. There will also be opportunities to march through a marsh and catch a fish or two. The DGIF volunteers will teach proper archery and casting techniques. And the US Coast Guard Auxiliary will be on hand to give boating safety tips.

The end of August means that summer is almost gone, but you can hold on to the season a little bit longer by having a day of outdoor adventure on the estuary.

Directions to York River State Park: From I-64, take the Croaker Exit 231B. Go north on Route 607 (Croaker Rd.) for one mile, then right on Route 606 (Riverview Rd.) about one and a half miles to the park entrance. Take a left turn into the park. Click here for a Google map.
