Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

There are 36 Virginia State Parks which means there is a Virginia State Park within one hour of nearly every Virginia resident and nearly every community organization, school, or non-profit.

This means Virginia State Parks can come to your organization or you can come to us, but either way, we are looking for dynamic partners to get more people active in the outdoors.

Virginia State Parks is a partner in many community endeavors and is a catalyst for economic impacts and ecological education in those communities.

For instance False Cape State Park recently partnered with Norfolk Sheriff Bob McCabe's Summer Camp for Kids by teaching camp counselors and volunteers how to be archery instructors and then spending every Tuesday for five weeks taking the kids on guided wild food walks and teaching them about survival skills and camping skills.
