Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Pocahontas State Park is requesting assistance from the community in an effort to keep the park beautiful and safe. Each year the park utilizes valuable manpower and funding cleaning up remote sites where illegal dumping has occurred. On Wednesday March 30, 2016 at approximately 1:47 p.m. a large amount of debris and trash was dumped at Christian Forest trailhead. This trailhead is located at the intersection of Qualla Road and Newbys Bridge road on the north side of Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield County.

Conservation Officers believe the owner of the truck pictured below may have information or witnessed something regarding this matter. The vehicle appears to be a late 80’s to mid 90’s model Ford F-150 dark colored with a green fender and door on the driver’s side. We ask that anyone recognizing the pickup truck pictured above contact an officer at 804-796-4255 or 804-489-0700.

We always appreciate customer reports of illegal activity in our parks. If you see something suspicious, please call the park's emergency number which is posted throughout the park or let someone on our staff know. Do not confront the person or attempt to engage them. Helpful information would include a license plate number if a vehicle is involved or as good a description as possible.

Virginia State Parks (April 10, 2016 08:38:33 AM): We have two prisons that back up to Pocahontas but are unaware they have dumped anything on our property. We are currently verifying boundary markers for the entire park and will verify that.

Selena (April 09, 2016 11:11:08 PM): What's being done about the prison dumping trash and cans in the Park?
